Spirituality & Vegetarianism

The Oneness Foundation believes in the “Garden of Eden” as our model for living, known by the Eastern religions as Shambhala or Shangri-La. There, our connection to God, animals, mother earth and one another is restored and in balance. We have used this model in our cat rescue, Eva’s Eden as well as in our personal lives. A world in balance does not sacrifice the environment or people’s health for more profits. It does not torture animals and waste resources for the sake of convenient and cheap living, and it does not attack people who have differences of opinion though harming no one. These imbalances lie in the hands of the people and are not a set of circumstances beyond our control. Changing it requires people to wake up from the insanity and raise the standard. It requires a people like the Essenes to be spiritually and intellectually aware, creating an environment for change …
There are some bible scriptures that clearly indicate that one day the world, including animals, would not eat each other. These prophecies speak of the lion eating straw and the wolf lying down with the lamb, and humans and animals no longer doing harm to one another. Religions from around the world speak of such a paradise. They refer to an era of time where there is peace, love and unity on the earth. If paradise is a place where all of creation is in harmony with both God and one another, then the opposite is also true. We see this fully manifested in the Book of Enoch, where carnality and lust for the flesh lead to gluttony so extreme, that after the animals were consumed, they consumed one another.

The Essenes took these examples to heart, and formed a community to foster their spiritual growth and enlightenment over 2000 years ago. They made an oath to never eat the flesh of anything dead, for they believed that if they did, they would become spiritually dead and full of disease. They knew that the consumption of flesh lowered their frequency and made them earthly minded, while raw foods contained a life force that raised their frequency allowing them to be more spiritually in tune. (This has now been proven to be true – raw foods contain bio-photons, a biological light force that dead, cooked or processed foods lack.)

As a result of the Essenes’ practices, this small community impacted the world in such a way that every western nation has been touched by it. They prophesied a coming Christ, and created an environment through which He could enter the world through the womb of Mary. They raised up a man known as John the Baptist who declared the Messiah and repentance until his death, and they copied and preserved holy manuscripts, known today as the Dead Sea Scrolls. They wanted a better world, and they did everything to foster this, both in their physical lifestyle and in the mastery of their character. They knew they had the ability to create change, and they used it to bring hope into the world.

Like the Essenes, the Oneness Foundation practices raising our frequency through vegetarianism and by increasing our raw food intake as one of our many disciplines. Many of our members noticed a significant change in their mindset and sensitivity once becoming vegetarian, even becoming less angry and more patient. They also saw a decline in their carnal mindset with improved clarity of thought and an increased ability to uphold their vision. Their care and concern for animals began to grow, and with that came an awareness that animals are more intelligent and feel more than what we had previously given them credit for (for more in depth detail read “Diet for a New America” by John Robbins.) Even the people surrounding them began to put more thought into what they were eating and began to question the methods by which their meat products were produced. Still others’ initial response was “I would rather die than stop eating meat.” Whether the response is out of feeling threatened by change or in support of it, in each case people became more aware, and in time, more accepting. When you change your own life, you affect others, and in time, this can change the world. When you foster your relationships with God, mankind and animals, a whole new world perspective opens up to you – one that ultimately contributes to your awakening and creates a Shambhala here on earth.

A Practical Reason for Being Vegetarian

In October of 2008 my husband Rickey was diagnosed with a liver disease giving him approximately 5 years to live without a liver transplant. More and more tests were run and then he was sent to the University of Washington Hospital to be placed on the liver transplant list. After the doctors gave Rickey yet another check over, the end result was, “Lose at least one hundred pounds and then come back and we will put you on the liver transplant list.”
With 5 children living at home all under the age of 12 years, we knew we had to make changes in our life style. So we (the family) went on a high protein low carbohydrate diet. We soon realized that our system could not process that much meat or fat, so we changed to a high vegetable protein diet with limited carbohydrates… we felt better, we had more energy and Rickey lost 97 pounds in 6 months.

Over the next 6 months Rickey’s liver enzymes went from high to completely normal. Actually his liver started repairing itself which we were told that part of the liver was completely dead. Rickey has been removed from the liver transplant list and he no longer has to go for testing.

We believe that because of the fresh fruits and vegetables that was consumed, raw and cooked, was the road to his health. In the mist of all this, it was a blessing beyond that our spiritual family began vegetarianism. Although we started on this road of eating vegetarian for health reasons, it now has ended up as a deep spiritual reason to abstain from eating flesh.

We are happy to be vegetarian and we are honored that we have a pastor that digs and finds precious pearls for us to glean from, because during this time of changing our life style, God moved upon her life to bring vegetarianism to our entire family for a much greater reason….LIFE…. Spiritual Life….. We started down that road for physical life…. Thank you Pastor.

Paradigm Shift

Have you ever had a paradigm shift in your life? Most of us don’t even know what a paradigm is. I didn’t. It is a radical change in your beliefs or theories of something. Or in other words, it is a time where what you once believed in something so whole heartedly to be correct, so right in fact that you would stand behind it no matter what. Then someone comes along and either shows you a different way or prompts you to look at things from a different perspective, and it so changes your life due to its truth, that you turn 180 degrees and follow this new direction.

It is amazing how society has directed us to their way of thinking, many times leading us away from what is ultimately right and true to be swayed toward their perspective. For instance have you ever played the game where you whisper a phrase or sentence into a person’s ear, then they do the same thing to the next person, and it goes around the room and it comes back to you something completely different from what you started with? It changes based on each individual perspective of what they have heard and how they passed it on.

For years we have been guided by our mothers, fathers, teachers, and preachers. Most of the time what they have passed on has been in good faith, teaching what they have been taught by their elders, and how they may have changed it slightly to fit their perspective. It is no longer the same as the original. I’m going to now add pharmaceutical companies, and most of the time they are not in your best interest what they want you to do. Have you ever watched a television commercial and been told that you need this particular drug to correct this particular problem? Ever read the known side effects?

In the time I have been with this ministry, Pastor Sheryl Walker has challenged me to seek the truth in a variety of different areas of my life to say the least. One of which being the foods we eat. The deeper a person looks into the Standard American Diet (SAD), the more we have bought into a system that is literally either killing us earlier in life, or a prolonged life of disability and pain, dependent on the pharmaceutical industry to keep us alive and minimally functional.

The book of Daniel had the big picture where in Daniel 1:12 it is stated that “Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink.” And the results were that they looked better than the king’s men. Many of modern man’s health problems can be either prevented or reversed by a vegetarian diet. Now lets be clear, white flour and sugar, though it fits in the typical category for a vegetarian diet, continues to cause health problems. A diet rich in vegetables, fruits and some grains (especially sprouted), and healthy oils, can reverse heart disease and diabetes, two of the major causes of death in the modern world. The addition of eggs and some dairy, a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet helps guarantee adequate protein in the body. The research is out there. It is easily accessible. Now it’s time for a choice. Change is never easy, but the end results can be spectacular. Are you ready to take a big step in your health? In your life? Are you ready for a paradigm shift? Thank you Pastor Sheryl.
